Frequently Asked Questions

What are wildsole sandals made from?

We aim to source all the materials used to make wildsole sandals from as close to home as possible. What we can't get nearby, we source with durability, recyclability and repairability in mind.

We passionately believe that the most responsible way to make wildsole sandals is to make them locally and to ensure that they can be repaired or recycled.

We use Vibram rubber soles from Italy. Vibram’s aim is to make the best performance soles in the world which have a minimal impact on the environment.

The toe strap is made from a thin nylon tubular webbing straps, which is soft and supple to minimise rubbing between the toes. We hand mold each integrated wildsole toe plug (the round disk underneath the sandal) from this webbing in our logo and brand them with a left and right wildsole foot logo.

The main strap is made from polypropylene and manufactured especially for us by our supplier in Nottingham, England.

We use a woven wildsole label to attach the two straps together, the label is manufactured for us in Wales and we use recycled sewing thread, made from 100% recycled PET bottles.

Our buckle is currently manufactured in the Far East from a high strength thermoplastic. We are in the process of developing a UK made alternative.

The wildgrip™ footbed is manufactured in Spain and is Oeko Tex Certified, which means that it has been tested negative for harmful substances.

The wildcork™ footbed is made in Portugal from sustainable cork.

How do you run in wildsole sandals?

Like the wind, free as a bird, at one with the wild…

If you are new to wearing barefoot, minimal, flat soled, footwear to run in we highly recommend transitioning slowly before you run in wildsole sandals. We suggest you spend time walking in them first before gradually increasing the time and distance you wear them for, before you start running in them.

Are wildsole sandals just for running?

No, not at all. Although we can run in all of our sandals due to the secure strapping system, we use them for everyday occasions too. They are built for performance and adventures, but they’re as great for taking the dog for a walk and doing the shopping as they are for a hike or a run up a mountain.

They are also lightweight, making them perfect for travel and packing in your backpack. With a durable and slip-resistant sole, you can feel confident tackling any terrain, from rocky trails to sandy beaches.

Our adventure sandals are made to be minimalist and mimic a barefoot experience, which means they offer a natural feel and allow your feet to move freely.

They are the perfect companion for outdoor adventures!

We would love to see what you get up to in your wildsoles, please use our hashtag #wildsoles on social media or tag @wildsolesandals in your posts.

How long will it take for my feet to get used to wildsole sandals?

This will depend on your feet. If you are new to minimal footwear we always recommend taking it slow and walking around in your wildsole sandals for a few weeks first, before you gradually begin to run in them.

Does the strap between the big toe and second toe hurt?

The strap used for the toe section is tubular, soft and folds to fit comfortably between the big and second toes. It shouldn’t hurt, although it may take a little bit of getting used to just like any new pair of sandals.

Aren’t these just flip flops?

Nope! They don’t flip and they don’t flop!

Flip flops are pretty minimal, but that’s where the similarity ends. Try a pair of wildsoles on once and you'll immediately discover the difference.

They fasten securely to our feet, enabling us to be active, agile and balanced, just as if we were barefoot. Run in them and you will notice there is no flip-flopping!

The materials we use are the best quality available to us at this time, including the Vibram sole, Slip Resistant wildgrip Footbed which is Oeko Tex certified and our UK manufactured strap.

wildsole sandals are designed and handmade in our small workshop in Yorkshire, England.

How do I look after my wildsole sandals?

All wildsole sandals can be washed by hand either with eco-friendly soap and warm water (we like to take ours in the shower) or simply with a hose pipe and brush outdoors.

We don’t recommend leaving wildsoles in a hot car or in the sun and suggest drying them at room temperature.

Are wildsole sandals waterproof?

Yes! In fact they are specifically designed for splashing in puddles, rivers, lakes or jumping into the sea off a high rock (at your own risk of course).

Won’t the straps wear down where they touch the ground?

Although it might look like the straps could rub on the ground, the main points of contact are actually the midfoot and heel.

The tubular webbing we use is also very durable, and any abrasion that does occur is usually only superficial.

We guarantee the straps for 1 year and will replace them free of charge if they break within that time. After the first year, replacement straps are available for purchase here: Extra Straps

How long should wildsole sandals last?

We expect all our sandals to last between 200-2000 miles, depending on the model, terrain and how you move.

If you have an issue due to wear and tear we may still be able to help you although it will incur a repair charge.

Please email hello@wildsolesandals.com with details of any problems and we will be happy to help.
